Venomous Abyss November 5 Hotfixes: Heroic and Mythic
Smaller Blood Venom pools affect Heroic and Mythic. Other November 5 raid nerfs have narrower scope. Check the exact mode before changing your next pull.
WoW AuditorGuidesA Heroic plan for Nek'zali: magic shields, safe Essence Rend dispels, tank lanes, corpse burning at 50% and a controlled final burn.

Break incoming adds' magic shields before they reach the well, dispel Essence Rend at the edge, burn corpses during the 50% intermission, and keep add control working through the final phase.
Nek'zali is an add-control fight with a memory: the bodies and ground zones you leave in the first phase become work you must finish later. A raid can have enough boss damage and still lose because everyone assumes someone else is watching the far side of the room.
This is a Heroic, Retail Midnight 12.1.5 guide, checked on 4 November 2026. Encounter details were compared with the Wowhead ability reference, Raidstrats' Heroic assignments and Method's Heroic breakdown. The positioning plan below is a suggested starting approach; it does not require a fixed 20-player roster.

Gravebound Advance — Magic damage breaks the shield; then stop the add before the well.
Essence Rend — Move to the outer drop area before calling for the dispel.
Possession Barrage — Tank creates distance; the raid leaves the boss-to-tank lane clear.
Hungering Pyre — Place over a corpse cluster and share its damage with the assigned group.
Cremation — Assigned flame players burn stray corpses while new adds remain covered.
T = tank; H = healer; R = assigned player/group. Arrows show movement or sequence; dots represent players or objects as described in the caption. Schematic, not to scale or a map of the actual arena. English labels match the linked abilities.
Give two ranged players opposite sectors to watch for glowing coffins and incoming Restless Amani. Name backups, and tell magic-damage players that a newly shielded add can take priority over finishing a nearly dead one. Mark an outer drop area for Essence Rend and a separate unobstructed lane for the active tank's Possession Barrage.
Agree who will call corpse cleanup at the transition and reserve a healing cooldown for Soulcoil Ignition. For initial progression, plan Bloodlust/Heroism when the boss becomes attackable after the intermission. That is a strategy choice for the dangerous finish, not a requirement of the encounter.
An Amani reaching the Soulcoil Well grants the boss energy and triggers raid damage. On Heroic, Ritual Burn makes repeated Rites more dangerous. Nek'zali also triggers Rites herself; preventing leaks does not remove the need to watch her energy. 100 energy means enrage.
First break Gravebound Advance with magic damage. Until that shield is removed, the add cannot be killed. Then kill or control it before it reaches the well. The off-tank should collect released adds from the outer side: do not make a loose add walk through the well to reach its new target.

A = incoming add; W = Soulcoil Well. 1: break the magic-absorption shield. 2: kill before the well, not after arrival.
A useful example call is “new shield left; casters switch; off-tank gather outside”. It separates shield breaking from cleanup and gives the watcher a specific response to request. Do not celebrate a wave as finished while one untouched shield is still travelling on the opposite side.
Essence Rend pulls, knocks back and leaves a dispellable effect. When it ends or is removed, a harmful Latent Cultist zone appears at that player's position. Move to the agreed outer area, then call for the dispel. Healers should check position before removal. A fast dispel in the middle can sacrifice the route your raid needs next.
For Possession Barrage, the active tank creates distance from the boss; the echoes deal less damage after travelling farther. Everyone else stays out of the boss-to-tank line because they can intercept them early. Tanks also monitor Hollowing Strikes, which reduces healing and absorbs, and swap so the previous tank can clear the debuff. Do not wait for healing to become ineffective before discussing the handover.
During Soulcoil Ignition, cover the raid damage with the assigned healing cooldown and dodge Anguished Echoes impacts. A healer moving from an impact circle is not available to rescue every avoidable mistake; this is a good moment to use a planned personal defensive.
At 50% health, Nek'zali becomes immune. Defeat the Echoes of Jawae to return her to the fight, and leave the Soul Transfer blast before its channel finishes. Adds still need attention while the raid is attacking the Echoes.
Heroic Amani leave Vessels of Awakening that can be repossessed. Place Hungering Pyre over corpses and have the assigned group share its damage. Players outside that soak receive Slithering Flame; its Heroic Cremation can burn remaining bodies. Coordinate positions before the effects resolve rather than sending everyone toward the same corpse at the last second.
Use a simple division: the soak group covers a corpse cluster, individual flame players cover strays, and the add watcher continues watching. Burning an isolated body is useful only if the player survives doing it. Call unfinished areas before the second Echo dies so the next phase begins with a shared picture of the room.

Grey shapes are corpses; gold dots are the Pyre soak group. Burn clustered corpses with 1, then isolated corpses with 2. Place over a corpse cluster and share its damage with the assigned group. Assigned flame players burn stray corpses while new adds remain covered.
Use the planned damage cooldowns when Nek'zali returns. Uncoiling adds continuing raid damage, while Invoke repositions the Latent Cultist zones around the well. Look at the floor again after each movement; a location that was safe a moment ago may no longer be usable.
Rotate healing resources through the finish, preserve the Barrage lane and keep killing incoming Amani. “Burn boss” must not silently cancel the assignments that prevent extra energy and damage. The last phase is where the first phase's careful zone placement pays off.
| Symptom | Check before changing the whole strategy |
|---|---|
| A distant add reached the well | Was its sector watched, its shield broken and its target kept outside? |
| The intermission filled with empowered adds | Were corpses covered by Pyre or Cremation, with separate players still handling new spawns? |
| Players died while crossing the final phase | Did moving Cultist zones or the Barrage lane cut off their route? |
Change one failed assignment for the next pull and name its owner. More boss damage will not fix a shield that nobody attacked or a dispel placed in the raid's only clear passage.
