Venomous Abyss November 5 Hotfixes: Heroic and Mythic
Smaller Blood Venom pools affect Heroic and Mythic. Other November 5 raid nerfs have narrower scope. Check the exact mode before changing your next pull.
WoW AuditorGuidesChoose a fountain plan for Heroic Vashnik, stagger Burning Venom deaths, stop add leaks and respond correctly to each infection type.

At each Imbibe, know which two fountains will activate. Kill every venom before the central pool, separate fire-add deaths and infection dispels, cover bile impacts, and swap tanks after Dripping Fangs.
Vashnik is one repeating phase in which the next add wave is partly a positioning decision. The tanks choose the two nearest fountains; the raid must then execute the corresponding add and infection plan. Trouble starts when one group is playing a static strategy while another expects a fountain rotation.
This guide covers Heroic, Retail Midnight 12.1.5, checked on 4 November 2026. Mechanics were cross-checked with Wowhead's live ability reference, Icy Veins' role guide and Method's updated Heroic strategy. Plans below are strategic choices, not compulsory raid compositions.

Imbibe — Confirm the two nearest fountains before the cast and what activated afterward.
Adaptive Infection — Read the infection type: Blood needs donors, Shadow separation, Flame timed dispels.
Catalytic Bile — Cover every impact; do not send several players to one while leaving another empty.
Dripping Fangs — Tanks swap after every cast and mitigate the hit.
Malignant Burst — Prevent this by killing every venom before it reaches the central cavity.

At 100 energy, Imbibe uses the two nearest fountains, damages the raid and adds Toxic Vapor, the encounter's growing background damage. Fountain Infusions also strengthen the matching mechanics and adds. Check actual boss position; crossing a floor line does not prove that the intended two fountains are closest.
Method's later Heroic approach keeps Vashnik between Shadow and Flame. This removes Blood's add and infection from the plan, but it still requires organised fire-add kills, shadow control and healing for repeated Imbibes. Assign grips where available; otherwise name ranged players and crowd control to stop distant adds reaching the middle. Do not call the plan safe merely because the boss stays still.

A/B illustrate the two nearest fountains, not their fixed positions or the total fountain count. V = Vashnik; C = Malignant Cavity. Stop every green venom before C. Confirm the two nearest fountains before the cast and what activated afterward.
The rotating alternative deliberately changes pairs, for example Shadow + Flame → Flame + Blood → Blood + Shadow. It varies Infusions and requires Blood handling and reliable boss movement. Choose it if that trade suits the group. Neither “always rotate” nor “never rotate” is an encounter rule. The caller names the next pair before the cast and confirms what actually activated afterward.
All living venoms move toward the Malignant Cavity. An arrival causes Malignant Burst, adding avoidable raid damage and a stacking damage-over-time effect. A dead large add is not a finished Blood wave if its smaller copies are still moving.
| Venom | What the kill team must do |
|---|---|
| Burning Venom, Flame | High priority because of ongoing Burning Presence. Kill one, allow the Heroic Caustic Surge effect to clear, then kill the other. |
| Clotting Venom, Blood | The initial large add cannot be controlled. Kill it and every split; do not rely on a stun to save the original. |
| Shrouded Venom, Shadow | Break its Miasmic Coating shield, control extras while priorities die, and dodge Umbral Ejection ground impacts on death. |
Assign a player to watch the venom nearest the centre, not just the current damage target. If an add is about to arrive, call its position and the needed response. This may override the usual priority list. Do not hold controllable adds indefinitely: Hardened Venom eventually makes surviving venoms faster and immune to control.
Adaptive Infection follows the current Infusions. One generic “spread with debuff” call fails because the required responses differ.

Read the infection type: Blood needs donors, Shadow separation, Flame timed dispels.
A useful call names the type and action: “Shadow, move clear and stay healable” or “Blood, healthy donors join”. Confirm the effect rather than guessing from where the player happens to stand.
Tanks mitigate Dripping Fangs and swap after every cast; the physical vulnerability makes casually taking the next one dangerous. The newly free tank can help organise adds while the active tank preserves the next fountain position.
For Heroic Malignant Catalyst, spread coverage so every Catalytic Bile impact has at least one player. Sending several people to the same circle does not cover an empty one elsewhere. Name a backup for areas whose normal player is handling an infection.
Plague Froth targets separate from the group. On expiration, Plague Waves travel in cardinal directions: leave predictable cross-shaped lanes that others can avoid. Do not chase a last-second add through another player's wave line. The rest of the raid must dodge the waves rather than assuming that moving the debuff away removes them.
For each cycle, ask: was the intended pair activated, did all venoms die before the pool, were fire deaths and dispels separated, and did infections receive the correct response? Assign healing resources to the Imbibe hit and the wave's known overlaps. Bloodlust/Heroism on the pull is a reasonable starting damage plan, not permission to ignore the first adds.
If the raid dies suddenly, review the nearest add's arrival and simultaneous explosions before calling it a healing shortage. If it steadily falls behind with clean mechanics, review escalating Toxic Vapor, Infusion choices and lost damage uptime. These are different problems. Fix the failed part of the cycle before changing every fountain call.
