Venomous Abyss November 5 Hotfixes: Heroic and Mythic
Smaller Blood Venom pools affect Heroic and Mythic. Other November 5 raid nerfs have narrower scope. Check the exact mode before changing your next pull.
WoW AuditorGuidesA practical Coiled Altar Heroic plan: clear venom orbs safely, park ghosts, break and interrupt Nightfall, and handle both kinds of soul fragments.
Updated

Alternate two Guillotine groups of at least five. Clear orbs with Sever under healing coverage. Free Dreadmarch targets, face their ghosts and let Soul Sever clear them. Break the Nightfall shield, then interrupt. Reclaim your own Soul Fragments; stagger interception of Malacrass fragments. Finish both bosses together.
Coiled Altar tests whether your raid can finish one job before starting the next. Carrying venom into the tank frontal is useful only if healers are ready for the resulting damage. Breaking a Nightfall shield matters only if someone then interrupts the cast. A clean transition is worth more than a few seconds of damage into the wrong target.
This guide covers Heroic, Retail Midnight 12.1.5, checked on 4 November 2026. The encounter was compared with Method's Heroic strategy, Icy Veins and Wowhead's ability reference. The current Heroic Spiritcackle and Gravebound spell entries resolve older reference inconsistencies. Do not copy Mythic orb counts or mutation changes into this plan.
November 5 hotfix note, checked November 6: Axegrinder’s spinning axes move 20% slower on all difficulties. Blizzard also lists Malevolent Resonance damage reduced by 60% without a difficulty qualifier; keep Manifestations separated. The additional two seconds before personal fragments fade is Mythic only and does not provide a new Heroic debuff duration. Official changes; difficulty breakdown.

Sever — Aim through a planned orb batch; prepare healing for Venom Rupture.
Guillotine — Alternate five-plus groups; after the hit leave the Widow’s Kiss circle.
Dreadmarch — Break the control shield; face the freed ghost and park it for Soul Sever.
Gravebound — Recover every required personal Soul Fragment before lethal expiry.
Eternal Nightfall — Break Veil of Twilight, then interrupt; assign a backup for the kick.

| Stage | Main target | Before moving on |
|---|---|---|
| Phase one | Zul'jan, to zero health | Clear manageable orb batches; prepare healing for remaining orbs |
| Phase two | Malacrass, to zero health | Clear ghosts and move away from the platform edge |
| Soulbinding intermission | Reviving Zul'jan | Intercept approaching fragments without simultaneous raid explosions |
| Final phase | Both bosses | Balance separate health bars and kill them together |
Before pulling, assign two alternating Guillotine groups, each with at least five available players, plus replacements. Set an orb collection point, a ghost parking point, tank frontal directions and a movement route out of the large post-soak circle. Name a Nightfall interrupter and backup; shield damage and the interrupt are separate assignments.
Toxic Deluge leaves Coalesced Venom orbs that pulse raid damage. Assigned mobile players step on them, carry Volatile Venom, then drop them at the agreed collection point when it expires. Keep that point away from the regular raid stack and the roaming Axegrinder axes. Preserve a route back rather than filling your own escape path.
Zul'jan's Sever frontal destroys orbs in its path. Each cleared orb also adds Heroic Venom Rupture pressure to the raid, so agree a batch and healing coverage before the tank fires. “Clear every orb immediately” can turn an organised floor into a lethal damage spike. Tanks swap on each Sever; everyone else stays outside the cone.

Z = Zul’jan; green dots are a planned orb batch. Three dots are illustrative, not a required count. Aim Sever through the batch and prepare H for the resulting raid damage.
Guillotine needs the assigned five-or-more group. Heroic vulnerability prevents reusing that group for the next soak, so alternate deliberately. After the hit, escape the displayed Widow's Kiss circle using your planned movement or gateway. Get players healthy before the follow-up: being outside the large circle does not remove every source of damage. Dispel Venomfang poison and keep dodging axes while returning.
At the phase push, remaining venom detonates. Check orb state and raid health before committing the last damage. During Fangs of the Coiled Altar, cover the raid channel and the Twinfang Toxin tank pressure that follows; do not spend every defensive on the first part.
Stay near Malacrass for cleave where the next mechanic allows. Dreadmarch mind-controlled players walk toward the edge under a shield. Break that shield urgently, before they fall; freeing them creates a Manifestation of Dread.
The fixated player faces the ghost to stop it and turns away when deliberately leading it toward the parking point. Contact on Heroic reapplies Dreadmarch. Ghosts are not normal damage targets: park them where the tank's Soul Sever can remove them, without sending the frontal through teammates. Tanks swap after each cast and recover their own fragments.
Gloombomb targets separate so their hits do not overlap, then immediately reclaim their own Soul Fragments. Gravebound kills on expiry if the soul remains fractured. Collect every required fragment and confirm the debuff clears before resuming damage; do not wait for a remembered timer from an older guide.
Spiritcackle summons a Spiteful Soulcoiler. Assign Wail of Terror interrupts and kill it promptly. Interrupts make it teleport, so hand over clearly when it moves; do not risk a completed fear for a marginally later kick. At 100 energy its casting becomes uninterruptible.
For Eternal Nightfall, burn through Veil of Twilight, then the named player interrupts the now-interruptible cast. Shield removal alone does not finish the mechanic. Dodge the shadow impacts and heal through Suffocating Darkness absorbs. Blizzard's October hotfixes added two seconds to Nightfall on all difficulties and made ghost fixation clearer; the required shield-then-kick sequence remains.

1: damage Veil of Twilight. 2: the shield reaches zero. 3: the assigned player interrupts Nightfall. Shield destruction alone does not finish the sequence.
Before pushing Malacrass, clear parked ghosts and move inward for the transition knockback. Avoid starting a fresh Dreadmarch with the raid already committed to the edge.
The intermission lasts 35 seconds. Zul'jan revives and takes 100% increased damage; Malacrass is heavily protected. A sensible initial Bloodlust/Heroism plan is this window, aimed at Zul'jan.
| Fragment | Who handles it | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Your Soul Fragments from Gravebound | The affected player | Recover the complete soul before lethal expiry |
| Fragments of Malacrass moving toward Zul'jan | Assigned interceptors | Prevent them reaching and healing Zul'jan |
Intercepting a Malacrass fragment triggers Spirit Erasure raid damage and a brief vulnerability. Stagger contacts with healing between them; running into every fragment at once is not a clean collection. Tanks or named interceptors watch the paths while the rest damage Zul'jan. Do not let a fragment reach him just because the current pickup would need a defensive.
Keep the bosses close for cleave and monitor both separate health bars. Soulbound makes a lone survivor increasingly dangerous, so redirect damage before the first death creates a large gap.
Blighted Sever now clears orbs and ghosts while applying Gravebound: aim, swap and recover souls. Grim Guillotine still needs five or more, alternating groups, absorb healing and a quick exit from its follow-up circle. Keep the Nightfall shield burst and interrupt available while handling Dreadmarch and separated Gloombombs.
Plan raid healing for Defilement of the Coiled Altar, tank coverage for Corrupted Toxins, and avoid Defiled Ground. Do not quietly abandon orbs because a guide says to ignore late mechanics. A finishing call needs a real kill in reach; otherwise continue assigned clearing.
On a wipe, identify the first unfinished job: an unbroken control shield, an unfaced ghost, an unrecovered soul, or a Nightfall left casting after its shield fell. Fix that handover before changing the entire strategy.
